Winch Lane Surgery

Appointments

All appointments, routine or urgent, can be made by calling the Practice on 01437-762333 at any time between 8.00am and 6.30pm on Monday to Friday.

However for routine appointments the best time to telephone is later in the day when it is less busy as you may have difficulty getting through early in the morning.

For urgent and home visit requests, we ask that you ring early.

Routine Face-to-face Appointments

The surgery has gone back to fully face-to-face appointments that are bookable in advance.  This means that when contacting the surgery with a non-urgent medical concern, you will be offered the next available routine appointment with your named GP or with another member of staff.

When you contact the surgery you may be asked for further details to help the reception team book your appointment with the most appropriate clinician.

Routine Telephone Appointments

In addition to the routine face-to-face appointments there are a limited number of routine telephone appointments at set times in the day. These are mainly for follow-up reviews such as discussing blood test results or radiology reports. These appointments are not appropriate if you think a physical examination is required.

Urgent Appointments

These appointments are available for urgent conditions that require medical attention on the same day. We ask patients to contact the surgery early in the day so they can be dealt with promptly. Please note that these appointments are to be used for ‘medically urgent’ concerns and if the clinician feels your problem is not urgent, you may be asked to rebook a routine appointment.

Appointments with Practice Nurses & Health Care Assistants

When making an appointment with the Practice Nurse team and Health Care Assistants you will be asked what the appointment is for as different members of the team perform different roles.

Cancelled Appointments

Please let us know as soon as possible, so that your appointment can be offered to someone else.

Home Visits

Home visits are for patients who are genuinely unable through illness or infirmity, to come to the Practice.

Please telephone as early as possible, preferably before 10.00am.  This helps the practice plan visits more efficiently.

The Receptionists will ask you about your problem, and take details of your name, address and telephone number.

A clinician may telephone you to establish whether a home visit is necessary and if so, how urgent.

You may not be visited by the clinician of your choice.
